Valued Member of The IUEC:
I have changed my heading this month to let every IUEC member know how proud we are to be a part of such a great organization. We are now into the second week of being locked out of our jobs from the EMANY employers. The Local One Executive Board and the general membership would like to thank the IUEC General officers for their support and commitment to local one. It has shown EMANY that they are not negotiating a contract against 1,500 members but they are challenging 30,000 IUEC members. The day that EMANY walked out of our last negotiating session and called for all our members to be locked out of our jobs without trying to stay at the table and negotiate a fair contract. There has been an overwhelming amount of support from every local throughout the whole IUEC. So far, Local 2 of Chicago, Local 10 of Washington, Local 4 of Boston and Local 8 of San Francisco sent Business Agents down to help out on the lock out. Washington’s Local 10 bussed in members to help out on picket lines. To all the members of the IUEC that have reached out to us to help us in our fight for a fair collective bargaining agreement, Local One thanks you for the overwhelming support you have shown us. This is what unity is all about.
Contract
On March 15, 2005 we held a meeting to discuss what has taken place for the past month at EMANY negotiations. We wanted to let our members know what type of proposals EMANY has tried to give us. All the Brothers and Sisters that were in attendance that evening, was by far the most empowering meeting I have ever been to. The response from our membership was heard loud and clear on how they felt about these main proposals (Shift Work, GPS and Construction Hoisting.)
Thank You
Local One would like to thank ThyssenKrupp Elevator. They came to the table with the same stance as Local One to negotiate a fair and equitable contract for both sides. We were all working for the same goal, to get our members and their employees back to work for another safe, productive and profitable three years. My hat is off to the Local One negotiating committee and ThyssenKrupp negotiating committee for a job well done.
