Valued Members of the Local One Union,

It is going on the sixth week that the EMANY group has locked out our members from their jobs. The support from our members has only gotten stronger. The Brothers and Sisters out there on these picket lines have forged a bond together. The solidarity between the other Locals has grown stronger everyday. Local One members were demonstrating at 1211 Sixth Avenue. A bus pulls up in front of our demonstration and a line of Boston Local Four members, wearing green shirts with the Boston logo on it, walk off the bus. This was truly priceless. It not only made a statement to EMANY, but to our Brothers and Sisters out there, that they are not alone in this fight. Everyday I log onto our Local One web site (IUEC1.org) and go to the logbook to read the posts from our members, family members and IUEC members. I must say that they have been impressive, moving and inspirational. These people have reached out to our locked out members and have offered them their assistance in many ways. We really appreciate these people for standing up and helping us in this fight. This is why we will not concede to corporate greed. As of April 21st, our IUEC members voted for a lockout relief fund. The members voted 98% in favor of this assessment with over 1,000 members in attendance.

I usually start my article every month with Valued Members of the Local One. When I write this, we, as a union, back it up by always being truthful and committed to our members. We have noticed that some EMANY employers have sent letters starting their heading, “Dear Valued Employee”. I ask EMANY if these employees are so valued, why would The Company Trustees of the National Elevator Industry Benefit Plans, three of which are EMANY negotiators, attempt to drive the costs of health care (COBRA), for our locked out members, to almost one-thousand dollars a month after your current eligibility is exhausted. Fortunately, our Union Trustees deadlocked with them and we are headed to arbitration on April 27th in hopes of reaching a fair rate for our locked-out members. It seems EMANY is not satisfied with depriving our families of their income. They also want to deprive our children of health care. How can any decent man use his position on a National Fund to try and destroy the families that work for you as EMANY is trying to do? SHAME ON THEM.

While the EMANY group tries to raise the COBRA payment, EMANY trustees controlling our annuity funds have tried to block our members from being able to draw money out of their annuity funds to pay bills and feed there families. Local One Trustees have also taken this to arbitration. .

ARBTRATION OUTCOME

We are pleased to announce that Local One won the annuity arbitration.

We are also pleased to announce that IUEC trustees for the National Elevator Industry benefit plan were successful in their arbitration for our member’s health benefits

SAVE THE DATE

Local One’s picnic will be held on August 13th. We hope to see all our Brothers and Sisters come out with their whole family and enjoy the great day that we have planned for you and your family. We were even thinking of having a Jimmy Walker dunk tank. Mark the date on your calendar and let’s show everyone what a Local One family is really about.

Local One’s fishing trip: June 25th out of Atlantic Highlands, NJ. The price is $90.00 per person and includes food, beverages, fishing rod and mates tip. If anyone is interested: contact Bill Sheehan @ home 732-938-3531 or cell 201-852-9580.
